A new beginning for Mount Stromlo

Here’s a place that will inspire children to become stargazers. Adults can also join in the fun at the new visitor centre at Mount Stromlo, as WILL WRIGHT reports.

Citizen scientists can now take part in ANU research such as looking for exploding stars and searching for sunspots.

Who knows what you might discover when you visit the centre that has the wow factor?

Be sure to see the video animation of a wormhole near Saturn and try the new ANU Space App to take a virtual tour of telescopes and laboratories.

When you arrive atop Mount Stromlo, three things immediately catch the eye: the stunning views across Canberra, the restored 1920s buildings and the burnt remains of telescope domes.

The redevelopment of the site since those fires has been slow but people from across ANU have been working diligently to make sure the wait has been worthwhile.
