Q&A: Steven Chu

Nobel laureate and former US Energy Secretary STEVEN CHU never wanted to get into politics but his work laid the ground for an historic climate change deal between the US and China last year.

Chu, who was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1997 for his work trapping atoms with laser light, has had a varied but successful career in physics and biology.

He even continued his scientific work while in the US Cabinet, including a paper that was published in the journal Nature.

Chu has had a long relationship with ANU and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate during a week-long stay on campus in December, during which he caught up with long-time friend PROFESSOR KEN BALDWIN, Director of the ANU Energy Change Institute.
