The holiday I’ll never forget

Everyone has one holiday etched into their memory – for better or for worse. Here’s what some of the ANU community nominate as the holiday they’ll never forget.

It was in May 2013 when I decided to have a trip to Nepal with my 2½ year-old son to enjoy the natural beauty. We went to Kathmandu and then flew to Pokhara to see the beautiful lakes and the Himalayas. We had a great trip to remember for a lifetime!

My most unforgettable holiday memory is a karaoke night at the Cedar Hall Bar and Grill in Lockhart, Texas. I’d gone alone and was distinctly aware of being an outsider in this town of 13,000 but by the time I left, I’d been announced to the room by the town sheriff and had made lasting friendships.

It was visiting an erupting volcano on Tanna Island in Vanuatu. And swimming in the tropics for the first time.

My two-year stay in Australia was full of exciting things like exploring the natural beauty of this amazing country. I visited various beautiful sites and cites but the most unforgettable trip was the helicopter ride over the 12 Apostles, arranged by my friends as my farewell gift.
