I read with interest the piece by Jon Altman in the Autumn edition of ANU Reporter [Will the Healthy Welfare Card be healthy?, Volume 47, No 1] as it is a topical subject with opposing views.
While at ANU, I was advised never to argue by assertion.
While critical of this initiative, Jon (and others) offer no other or better solutions to this problem when so much of the social security dollar could be used for alcohol or gambling (no-one seems to have mentioned tattoos) to the detriment of the home and family life.
We know the problem. At least this trial is attempting to come up with a workable solution.
