Q&A: Thérèse Rein and Michael Brand
Businesswoman and former first lady THERESE REIN, and international art scholar DR MICHAEL BRAND, have been honoured as the joint recipients of the 2014 ANU Alumni of the Year award.
Founder of a successful international business that now spans 10 countries and has helped hundreds of thousands of people battling disability or social disadvantage to find work, Thérèse Rein has been patron of 10 charities and has been the rock beneath the political career of her husband, former Prime Minister and ANU alumnus Kevin Rudd, BA (Asian Studies) (Hons) '81.
Dr Michael Brand, who is currently Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, has made an extraordinary contribution to Australian and international art.
Specialising originally in the art of India and the Islamic world, Michael's illustrious career has taken him across the globe, including serving as Director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and then the J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
