Living with fellow students can build friendships for life. Photo by Stuart Hay.
The university experience very often comes with roommates.
Whether good or bad, some people will stick in your mind forever.
Here's what some of our students had to say about their experiences.
Touches like that which make him a great roommate.
"My current roommate is probably one of the best. I've been living with him for six months and he's great.
I had a rough day yesterday and he really pulled me out of the dumps.
I had a nice vent to him about my day in the car and he listened to it all when he really could have switched off.
When we got home he made me a cup of tea and put on NCIS on the TV for me to relax to.
I can't think of anyone else who I've had as a roommate who is like that."

"My roomie is an amazing person.
She washes my dishes; she parties with me but she grounds me and makes me study.
She bakes cakes and is a great person all round."

"My next door neighbour in ressies has become my best friend since we moved in.
We study together, we chill out together, she'll be a lifelong friend I think.
She's about to move to England on the London School of Economics exchange program for a year and I'll miss her so much."

He turned up at ANU with a bag and a laptop.
"My flatmate Rennie is probably one of the more interesting characters. He's a complete minimalist.
He managed to put 20 years of his life in one bag. I don't think he'll ever change."
