Talking to my country

A shared identity that links Australians of all backgrounds is what journalist Stan Grant wrote about in his latest book.

It's what made a speech he gave last year - discussing whether or not Australia is a multicultural safe haven - go viral in the lead-up to Australia Day in January.

It may be Grant's personal meditation on what it means to be Australian but it has struck a chord with many across the country.

At a packed Llewellyn Hall at ANU, Grant - who studied at ANU - spoke about what it means to be an Indigenous Australian, what racism really means in Australia and what it means to be Australian. It follows on from his book, Talking To My Country.
