For 75 years The Australian National University (ANU) has trained the world’s nuclear scientists and experts.

ANU provides the only hands-on, research-led and comprehensive nuclear physics programs in Australia. Plus, our campus is home to the southern hemisphere’s largest heavy ion accelerator — a facility that generates enough power and energy to conduct safe nuclear experiments.

Our research-led teaching covers all aspects of nuclear science, including reactor science, nuclear fuel cycles and how to ensure policy debates are informed by science and best practice.

For decades, we’ve been training the experts to safely deploy and regulate nuclear technologies.

Now that Australia has signed the historic AUKUS deal on nuclear-powered submarines, ANU is ready to train the next generation of nuclear scientists to help safely build and maintain these complex machines and to fill the gap in our workforce.

A national effort. A national university.
