Dr Caroline E. Schuster is a Senior Lecturer in the ANU School of Archaeology and Anthropology and Co-Director of The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies.

Dr Schuster is a specialist in gender equity, entrepreneurship, and economic development, having spent two decades engaged in on-the-ground fieldwork with marginalised communities in Latin America. Her research on microfinance and microinsurance uncovers the complex social and cultural forces that shape how local people engage financial systems.

Since 2019 she has served as Director of The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS).

Her recent work on climate insurance in the agricultural sector in Latin America has contributed to public debates about disaster risk and financial recovery, especially for low-income communities.
