David Tscharke is a Professor, NHMRC Leadership Fellow and Head of Division in Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the John Curtin School of Medical Research.

The overall theme of Professor Tscharke’s research is to understand the interactions between viruses and our body. This includes how viruses cause disease and how our immune system combats viruses. It also includes the biology of vaccines.

He has a particular interest in herpes simplex virus (the cold sore virus) and vaccinia virus (the vaccine used to eradicate Smallpox).
