Dr Edward Sing Yue Chan is a Postdoctoral Fellow of China Studies at the Australian Centre of China in the World at ANU and the Associate Editor of The China Journal.

Dr Chan studies international relations, China’s foreign policy, East Asian security, Chinese maritime history, and maritime security. He is an author of China’s Maritime Security Strategy: The Evolution of a Growing Sea Power (Routledge, 2021).

His current research focuses on the role of China’s domestic maritime players in grey-zone operations and the interaction between Chinese and western seapower ideologies. He speaks fluent Cantonese and Mandarin.
