Keith Barney is Associate Professor at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy.
Associate Professor Barney has conducted research on the changing geographies of environment and development, and natural resource policy in Southeast Asia since 1999, including fieldwork in Lao PDR, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
His interests lie at the intersections between political ecology, economic geography, and agrarian change. His main sectoral areas of expertise include forestry and land management, water and hydropower, mining, rural development, and labour migration, with a focus on the Mekong region.
Professor Barney is a country expert on Lao PDR (Laos) and often provides informed media comment regarding contemporary political, economic and environmental issues and challenges in Laos. He is currently a Professor at the ANU Resources, Environment and Development (READ) Group.
