Dr Maria Dahm is a Senior Research Fellow in the ANU Institute for Communication in Healthcare.

Dr Dahm is an applied linguist who researches diagnosis, patient safety and policy. She is currently working in healthcare communication on a project how diagnostic uncertainty is expressed in Emergency Departments

Her research sits at the nexus of health communication and health services research and focuses on investigating the impact of health communication in quality and safety of care and improving consumer engagement in health communication research. She is a leader in the field of diagnostic communication with a particular focus on diagnostic uncertainty.

Past research projects include analyses of communication for chronic kidney disease, medical terminology, test results management and COVID-19 and transition of care.
