Professor Penny King is in the Geochemistry Group at the ANU Research School of Earth Sciences.

Professor King’s research group has expertise in examining the interaction of planetary materials with their environments. These studies are relevant to greenhouse gas sequestration, reactions at and beneath volcanoes and in ore deposits, and reactions on the surface of Mars, in the early solar system, and on exoplanets.

Her group is also developing methods to improve the analysis of materials – especially novel techniques for analysing light elements, multivalent elements and trace elements. She has significant experience with spectral data (infrared) and helped calibrate the APXS instrument on the Mars Curiosity rover (X-ray data).
