Robyn Alders AO is an Honorary Professor at the ANU Development Policy Centre.
Honorary Professor Alders is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, Tufts University.
For over 30 years, she has worked alongside family farmers across sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and Australia as a veterinarian, researcher, and collaborator. Her work focuses on developing sustainable, One Health approaches to infectious disease control in animals in rural areas, with the overarching goal of supporting food and nutrition security.
Her current research activities include:
* Serving as a Commissioner and Co-Lead of the Prevention Working Group for the Lancet–PPATS Commission on Prevention of Viral Spillover, which seeks to reduce the risk of pandemics through primary prevention strategies;
* Serving as a Member and Lead of the Socio-Economic Working Group for the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Network of Expertise on Animal Influenza (OFFLU), supporting the global prevention and control of animal influenzas;
* Participating as a Member of the One Health Working Group within PREZODE (Preventing ZOonotic Disease Emergence), an international initiative focused on understanding the risks of zoonotic infectious disease emergence, and on developing and implementing innovative methods for improved prevention, early detection, and resilience to ensure rapid response to emerging infectious disease threats of animal origin.
