Dr Rowina Nathan is a Postdoctoral Researcher at The Australian National University, working in the Centre for Gravitational Astrophysics.
Dr Nathan is a gravitational-wave astrophysicist whose research focuses on understanding the Universe through ripples in spacetime produced by extreme cosmic events. Her work uses gravitational-wave observations to test Einstein’s theory of general relativity and to map the gravitational-wave background, a faint cosmic signal created by many distant sources across the Universe.
She also works on gravitational-wave data analysis methods and the interpretation of astrophysical signals to test fundamental physics. She is an active member of the OzGrav ARC Centre of Excellence, the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the MeerKAT Pulsar Timing Array and the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array.
Dr Nathan is also an experienced science communicator, known online as *PinkAstrophysicist*, where her educational videos about space and physics have reached over 7 million views. She has presented her research publicly through television, radio, podcasts, and print media. She regularly communicates complex scientific concepts to broad public audiences and is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM. Rowina is available for media commentary on gravitational waves, black holes, neutron stars, cosmology and major astronomy discoveries.
