Ruby Olsson is a PhD candidate at the Fenner School of Environment and Society and a researcher at the ANU Institute for Climate Energy and Disaster Solutions and the ANU Institute for Water Futures.

Ruby is a social scientist undertaking a PhD as part of the ANU Save Our Snow Gums project on the socio-economic impacts of snow gum dieback in the Australian Alps and possible response options, including a comparative case study of whitebark pine dieback in North America.

Her first foray into environmental science was researching the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB). Her honours thesis at the Fenner School examined the role of communities in making adaptation decisions, using a case study of the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District in the MDB.

Ruby has some media experience, having done TV and radio interviews with ABC News, Sky News and Australian Geographic for her report “Our Changing Snowscapes: Climate Change Impacts and Recommendations for the Australian Alps”.
