Dr Sven Buder is a Research Fellow at the ANU Research School for Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Dr Buder is a stellar physicist and galactic archaeologist. His research objects are the stars of our Milky Way galaxy. He is unravelling the formation history of our galaxy – and galaxies in general – by using stars as time capsules. When they were born billions of years ago, these time capsules have locked the history of their birth environment into their atmosphere.

Using some of the world’s largest optical telescopes, Dr Buder is now extracting this information from star light to understand how individual stars and stellar populations evolve.
