Tom McGoram is the Chief Executive Officer of Heavy Ion Accelerators, hosted at The Australian National University.

He joined Heavy Ion Accelerators in January 2023, after 22 years in the Australian Public Service, including six years in the Senior Executive Service. During this time Dr McGoram held senior roles at the Department of Defence and Services Australia.

Dr McGoram has an interest in the application of heavy ion particle accelerators to the space industry, supporting the education of a nuclear-literate workforce and physics research.

He is also a graduate of the ANU, with a PhD in nuclear physics obtained at the Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility in 2002. Dr McGoram is married to Sarah and they have a son, George, and a moodle, Winston.
