Professor Ute Roessner AM FAA is the Academic Director of the ANU Research Initiatives and Infrastructure.
Her research interests are to develop and apply metabolomics methods to study plants. In 2003 Ute moved to Australia where she established a metabolomics platform as part of the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics. In 2007, she helped set up Metabolomics Australia (MA), an internationally renowned, national metabolomics service provider to academia and industry. Professor Roessner led the MA node at the University of Melbourne until 2019, and between 2018 and 2022 Professor Roessner was the Head of the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne.
Professor Roessner is a Lifetime Honorary Fellow of the International Metabolomics Society. She was elected to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2020. In 2021, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.
Professor Roessner has a PhD in Plant Biochemistry from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam, Germany. Prior to that, she gained a Diploma in Biochemistry at the University of Potsdam, and the John Innes Institute in Norwich, UK.
