Associate Professor Joan Licata is a researcher and educator in the Mathematical Sciences Institute at ANU.

She received her PhD in 2007 from Yale University and held postdoctoral positions at Stanford University, the Institute for Advanced Study, and the Max-Planck Institute before joining ANU in 2012.

Her primary research area is low-dimensional topology, with a focus on knot theory, three-manifolds, and contact geometry. In additional to lecturing and supervising research students, Dr Licata has convened the Honours specialisation in mathematics since 2014.
